Android 2.1 available for Motorola DROID and Milestone over the air

We reviewed the Motorola Milestone earlier this year and even now it is our belief that it is perhaps one of the best Android based GSM handsets available. Additionally unlike the Motorola DROID (the MILESTONE’s CDMA counterpart) which has been facing delays on and off for its much anticipated Android 2.1 update (update, Android 2.1 for Motorola DROID is rolling out now), the Motorola Milestone has an Over The Air (OTA) update available now. In fact, in the rest of the post below you will even find a manual download link to update your Motorola MILESTONE if you do not fancy OTA updates.

Motorola has been making a great recovery after its mobile phones sales started suffering at the end of the Motorola RAZR era and it has been doing so mainly with its Android based handsets. The Motorola Milestone is one such and now with this latest update becomes even more attractive for new buyers.

Although the Android 2.1 update for Motorola Milestone has been available for about a week now, OTA (Over The Air) updates are just beginning to be available in various countries. Users who have already tried it out say that the update to Android 2.1 only takes a few minutes and with a restart you can then begin using your updated Motorola Milestone.
The update includes support live wallpapers, nine new homescreen panels, improved overall performance and new applications including Facebook and QuickOffice as well as Motorola’s camera application and Motorola Car Home interface for in-car usage of the Motorola Milestone.

And now it seems the update to Android 2.1 for Motorola Droid is also rolling out for Verizon users so keep an eye out because the update will be made available in batches and should be available to all by this Thursday quite possibly if Verizon are to be believed.
To download the Android 2.1 update for Motorola Milestone, click here although we would recommend using the OTA update or using the Motorola site’s owner support page to get your update.
