Last time we covered the eagerly anticipated Motorola i1 Android based iDEN cellphone was to tell you that not had its name been changed from the Opus 1 to the Motorola i1 smart phone but also that the Motorola i1 would feature a 5 MP camera instead of the anticipated 3 MP one. Well all speculation is at an end now as Motorola has officially announced the Motorola i1 mobile phone for the Spring Nextel iDEN network. One of the most intriguing feature of the Motorola i1 is that it runs the Android OS and this should be one of the top of the line phones for the iDEN network. (more…)

  • Well to say that Palm shares have been falling is akin to saying that a sinking boat has sprung a leak, as Palm shares fell 25% mainly due to the $22 million announced loss for the third quarter of Palm‘s fiscal year. This despite a recent report by Canalys that forecasts a 112.3% growth year over year in the North American market alone for Palm. AT&T users on the other hand can look forward to getting their hands on the Palm Pre Plus and Palm Pixi Plus as Palm announced that they would soon be available on the AT&T network. (more…)

  • HTC Magic memory infected by malware, Google intros Buzz and Orkut widgets

    Orkut and the recently unveiled Google Buzz are both social networking tools and incidentally both are owned by Google. After the recent release of Google Maps 4.1 for Android, Google introduced Google Buzz and Orkut widgets for Android based smart phones. HTC Magic mobile phones sold by Vodafone in Spain appear to contain the Mariposa botnet virus in their memory cards and while steps have been taken to cure infected computers and Vodafone has issued replacement memory cards, Vodafone users are urged to be cautious worldwide.     Android 2.1 for Motorola Droid delayed, HTC Hero set for Android 2.1 update

    Motorola Droid users will have to wait a while longer before the get the much coveted Android 2.1 official update, of course more pioneering and adventurous users have already hacked their Motorola DROID cellphone to 2.1 using methods best left untried for the less tech-savvy amongst us. The HTC Hero smart phone on the other hand is set to receive the long awaited update to Android 2.1 in Europe by the middle of April according to users posting on XDA Developers forums which are fairly reliable in such matters.   • India to get Nokia Comes With Music by Mid-2010

    Nokia had been planning on launching their Comes With Music service in India in 2009 but was delayed time and again but if the latest reports are to be trusted then India will be reaping the benefits of phones with Nokia Comes With Music service as early as mid-2010. Like in many other countries, the Nokia Comes With Music service will be available for one year and users will be able to download unlimited number of songs directly to their Nokia cellphone or to their computer and will be able to keep the songs after the service expires.   • Android 2.1 for Samsung Galaxy Spica i5700 and Luxury Gold edition Samsung Diva S7070

    Android 2.1 has arrived for the Samsung Galaxy Spica i5700 smart phone just as we reported it would in an earlier post, however it is earlier than expected. The Samsung Diva S7070 cellphone on the other hand seems to also have a Luxury Gold edition, which will definitely appeal to the segment of the market the Samsung Diva mobile phones are targeted at. We do however expect that the Luxury Gold edition of the Samsung Diva S7070 is not actually gold because that would be terribly expensive and is merely a color option.   • No copy paste for Windows Phone 7 series

    Windows pretty much revolutionized how the world works, not only did it introduce a GUI that was so simple that anyone could work it, it also introduced the copy-paste technique possibly used by millions of people throughout the world. On the latest mobile version of Windows (that is Microsoft Windows Phone 7 series), it seems that the copy paste function will not be available, this was revealed by Microsoft at its MX10 conference where Windows Phone Marketplace and free Windows Phone 7 Developer Tools were also unveiled.   • Android 1.6 phones get Google Gesture Search

    Android is rapidly gaining popularity both as mobile operating system for cellphone manufacturers and as the platform of choice by mobile phone users and was one of the biggest gainers in market share year over year according to a Gartner report.Recently we covered an announcement by Google Labs of their newly released Gesture Search App however then it was only for devices running Android 2.1 or higher of which few exist but now Google has extended support for this application to Android 1.6 handsets as well which encompasses most Android based handsets in use these days.     Opera Mini 5 and Opera Mobile 10 stable, out of beta

    Both Opera Mini 5 and Opera Mobile 10 are mobile browsers where Opera Mini is almost legendary in its ability to work on almost any cellphone capable of connecting to the Internet and Opera Mobile 10 is a slightly more advanced browser that runs on smart phones only. Another thing both Opera Mini 5 and Opera Mobile 10 have in common is that they had been in beta for almost as long as one can remember, now however that is set to change with both Opera Mini 5 and Opera Mobile 10 final versions released!   • HTC Desire smart phone to also be available in silver

    The HTC releases at MWC were much appreciated and relished particularly as they were the last of the major manufacturers to show off their new devices including the HTC Desire cellphone. The HTC Desire smart phone, which some suggest might be the natural successor to the HTC Nexus One cellphone was also much admired. With a Qualcomm Snapdragon 1 GHz processor powering the Android 2.1 powered HTC Desire smart phone and with the updated HTC Sense UI topping it off, it seems to definitely be one of the best new upcoming phones from HTC.
