Altek Leo Mobile Phone Preview

Altek, a little known company amongst consumers from Taiwan has just announced the Altek Leo, a 14 MP camera phone that has 3x optical zoom as well as Xenon and LED flash. According to their website, Altek became the world’s largest digital camera ODM (Original Design Manufacturer) in 2008 which means that although they may be new to telephony, Altek is still a company to be reckoned with.

The Altek Leo cellphone, in addition to its very adequate abilities as a digital camera, also has 3.5G capability as well as Wi-Fi. Judging from the renderings available it also seems that the Altek Leo will run some form of Android (look at the buttons below the display) which makes sense as Android is open source and therefore free.

The Altek Leo smart phone is set to be launched in about a months time at the CommunicAsia 2010 to be held this June in Singapore. With HD capability for both still images and videos (at 720p), combined with connectivity options through Wi-Fi as well as 3.5G, the Altek Leo will likely be a quick hit with most people.

This of course is subject to the quality of the camera, however given that Altek is an ODM (possibly the world’s largest) for digital cameras, we doubt there will be any problems in that regard for the Altek Leo camera phone.

We shall however soon find out for ourselves once the Altek Leo mobile phone launches in about a month’s time.
