Android 2.1 for Motorola Droid delayed, HTC Hero set for Android 2.1 update

Motorola Droid users will have to wait a while longer before the get the much coveted Android 2.1 official update, of course more pioneering and adventurous users have already hacked their Motorola DROID cellphone to 2.1 using methods best left untried for the less tech-savvy amongst us. The HTC Hero smart phone on the other hand is set to receive the long awaited update to Android 2.1 in Europe by the middle of April according to users posting on XDA Developers forums which are fairly reliable in such matters.

The HTC Hero cellphone is most notably the first HTC Android handset to feature HTC Sense and also features multi-touch capability. In December 2009, HTC announced that they would release an Android 2.1 update with HTC Sense for the HTC Hero mobile phone and this was later confirmed by Sprint with the release of the Android 2.1 update for the HTC Hero smart phone slated for the second quarter of 2010.

Now in a post at the XDA developers forums, we have found information that claims that the Android 2.1 update will start rolling out in mid-April across Europe for the GSM version and at the end of March for the CDMA version of the HTC Hero cellphone.

Motorola Droid users probably released a collective groan of dismay having learned that the software update that would see Android 2.1 implemented delayed till an as yet unannounced date.

The Motorola DROID smart phone was set to receive the official update to Android 2.1 on March the 18th for Verizon Wireless users. Of course some users have been running Android 2.1 on the Motorola Droid mobile phone for as long as Android 2.1 has been around by hacking it and updating the ROM. We would hardly recommend doing so however as you risk damaging your Motorola Droid cellphone doing so and quite likely voiding your warranty.
