Blackberry Bold 9650 and Blackberry Pearl 3G announced

Two new Blackberry phones were announced by RIM (Research In Motion), the Blackberry Bold 9650 and the Blackberry Pearl 3G. Both the Blackberry Bold 9650 and the Blackberry Pearl 3G are 3G capable phones and while both phones are available in GSM models, only the Blackberry Bold 9650 has a CDMA/EV-DO (Rev A) model and will be available with Sprint. The Blackberry Pearl 3G on the other hand is set for release in Canada with Rogers as well as with Bell.

Both the Blackberry Bold 9650 mobile phone and the Blackberry Pearl 3G share a few common features amongst their technical specifications list, including having a 3.2 MP camera, a high resolution screen display, GPS, Bluetooth and 3G.

The only other tech spec currently known for the Blackberry Bold 9650 smart phone is Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g). The Blackberry Pearl 3G cellphone also has Wi-Fi but it has 802.11 b/g/n compatibility.

The Blackberry Pearl 3G mobile phone is slimmer and more compact but for the most part, both the Blackberry Pearl 3G and the Blackberry Bold 9650 should feel comfortable for past users of Blackberry devices.

At the moment, there is still no official press release or information available from RIM regarding the Blackberry Bold 9650 cellphone or Blackberry Pearl 3G smart phone although from the pictures available, one can clearly see that they maintain the standard Blackberry look as both phones have the usual candybar form factor with QWERTY keyboards.

*Update* The press release has arrived and we now know that the Blackberry Bold 9650 will have a 2.44″ display with 480 x 360 pixels resolution, 3.5 mm audio jack and a 1400 mAh battery that provides 5 hours of CDMA talk time.

The Black Pearl 3G on the other hand has the following features in addition to those mentioned above: 624 MHz processor with 256 MB flash memory, 360 x 400 pixels resolution display, microSD and microSDHC compatible slot for up to 32 GB expandable memory, 1150 mAh battery that provides approximate 5.5 hours of talk time on 3G networks. Also the Blackberry Pearl 3G will feature Blackberry OS 5.

It should also be noted that both the Blackberry Pearl 3G and the Blackberry Bold 9650 feature an optical trackpad rather than the usual trackball.
