Users for Galaxy Nexus stated that the problem occurred once they updated the OS to 4.0.4 and when they put their phone to sleep mode, the carrier signals dropped. They also identified that when no application was running, the phone lost signals and the processor performance got affected too.

This created problems for users as they were unable to either receive or make calls. Not only this, they were unable to send or receive text messages. According to some experts, if you run any application in the background continuously, the chance of signals being dropped will be lower. The basic idea is to keep the processor active as once the processor is on a minimal function mode, the phone looses signals.

It is also noted that the this particular issue of signals being dropped is only to be seen in the Android 4.0.4 update. Those who have reverted back to 4.0.2 claim no network issue.
