Barcelona, Spain: That’s the place to be this time of year if you are at all inclined to learn what the next year holds for us in terms of mobile phones and related technologies. Toshiba, a relatively small player in the smart phone industry unveiled two new Windows Mobile 6.5 based smart phones, the Toshiba TG02 and the Toshiba K01. Technical specifications and more to be seen below.
The Toshiba TG02 pictured above is the natural successor to the Toshiba TG01. Differences between the two generations are hard to see too many differences in the specifications as they both feature a 4.1″ WVGA screen, a 3.2 Mega Pixel camera and sport the same dimensions.
On the other hand the Toshiba TG02 will feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 1 GHz processor and the 4.1″ WVGA screen is capacitive. Furthermore expect better UI as the Toshiba TG02 will run Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.5 and from initial pictures looks to be using the SPB Mobile Shell 3.5.3 which was much superior to the original interface of the TG01.
The Toshiba K01 on the other hand features a slide-out QWERTY style keyboard that might be better suited to all the “texting enthusiasts” out there. And other than the OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) 4.1″ display featured on the Toshiba K01, technical specifications are pretty much the same for both cellphones.
As of yet there are no details regarding pricing and availability of the Toshiba TG02 and the Toshiba K01 although rumors are already fast spreading. We feel that the Toshiba TG02 and Toshiba K01 will both be a welcome addition to the cellphone market.
Regardless, Toshiba still has a lot of catching up to do with current market innovators HTC who not only sport a better UI (SenseUI) but also have a highly functional distribution set-up.
