Motorola i890 is Sprint’s latest iDEN cellphone

The Motorola  i890 flip phone is the latest cellphone offering from Sprint that runs on the iDEN network, this after we previewed the much talked about Motorola i1 in an earlier post. iDEN devices such as the Motorola i890 have the advantage of PTT or PTC (Push to Talk over Cellular) but on the other often lack features such as global roaming, 3G connectivity and are drab. While the Motorola i890 does not have quad-band GSM and tri-band WCDMA or 3G connectiviity, it does look quite good with its black and gray design.

The Motorola i890 cellphone is not as feature rich as some of the more high-end phones but certainly has enough to hold its own against regular phones. The 2 MP camera is typical of flip phones these days and the Motorola i890 mobile phone also sports a microSD slot for up to 8 GB of expandable memory.

Some of the other features on the Motorola i890 flip phone include Bluetooth, GPS, 180 MB of internal memory, quick-release button to open the flip phone, music player, a 2.2″ QVGA internal display with 240 x 320 pixels resolution and a 1.8″ TFT external display with touch sensitive buttons just below.

Other iDEN specific features such as Direct Talk, International Direct Connect, Group Connect and Direct Send are also available. The Nextel Direct Connect feature also allows you to instantly connect to other subscribers of Nextel Direct Connect using the Push To Talk (PTT) feature of the Spring Motorola i890 mobile phone.

All in all, we deem the Motorola i890 cellphone at least worthy of a look and while it is clearly not for all users, people familiar with and those whose needs match PTT or PTC will likely welcome this flip phone to the rather limited portfolio of iDEN devices available.
