Nokia X5 and C5 cellphones for China announced

China is a rapidly expanding cellphone market and despite having home grown companies that are amongst the world’s largest networking, telecommunication and mobile equipment industry (Huawei and ZTE) they are lagging behind in the cellphone industry. Nokia has for several years created China-specific phones and looks to extend their market share in China with the release of the Nokia X5 and Nokia C5 smart phones. Both the Nokia C5 and X5 mobile phones feature TD-SCDMA.

The major technical specifications for both the Nokia X5 smart phone and Nokia C5 cellphones are the same and include a 2.4″ QVGA TFT 16 M color display and a 5 MP camera with dual LED flash as well as 3G capability through China Mobile’s TD-SCDMA network.

The Nokia X5 cellphone will be available in red, white and black colors whereas the Nokia C5 mobile phone will be available in white and black colors.

The major difference between the two is that the Nokia X5 smart phone is geared towards entertainment and features apps such as Fetion IM and has access to the Mobile Market-Ovi Store which is the first joint application store between Nokia and China Mobile.

Mobile video access, mobile map/navigation as well as a dedicated music key and easy access to the CMCC music store round off the Nokia X5 cellphone‘s entertainment geared features.

The Nokia C5 mobile phone on the other hand is marketed as an affordable yet stylish internet device and features Fetion and 139 mailbox and of course access to the MM-Ovi Store and all the related services and applications.

The Nokia X5 is set for a Q2 release whereas the Nokia C5 is targeted for a Q3 release, both for 2010.
