Samsung Galaxy I6500U with Android 2.1 announced for China

The Samsung I6500U Saturn smart phone has been rumored since about December 2009 but has only recently been officially made available, and in China at that by Unicom and will be known as the Samsung Galaxy I6500U. We are not highly concerned with what the Samsung Galaxy I6500U may be called, but this latest Android 2.1 based phone by Samsung does have a lot of interesting features although the Samsung Galaxy I6500U will likely soon be superseded by the Samsung Galaxy S I9000 which we previewed in an earlier post.

The technical specifications of the Samsung Galaxy I6500U mobile phone include a 3.2″ AMOLED capacitive touchscreen, Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g), 800 MHz processor, 3.2 MP camera, handwriting recognition, Bluetooth 2.1, microUSB, GPS, FM radio, microSD slot for up to 32 GB of expandable memory, accelerometer, quad band GSM and dual band UMTS for HSPA class 3G access.

While the Samsung Galaxy I6500U cellphone is slightly pricey at about 3,399 Yuan or $500 or approximately 370 Euros, it does have a lot of features and is one of the few Android 2.1 devices available out of the box today.

Of course many would argue that a Motorola Milestone with an update or even a Google Nexus One are better or that it might be better to just wait it out till the release of the Samsung Galaxy S I9000 or even the Samsung Wave S8500 which has far more cutting edge features although it will likely be in a higher price bracket.

In our opinion though, the Samsung Galaxy I6500U (Saturn) smart phone is very cleverly priced for its features and will likely attract a lot of users who would rather not wait or risk updating their phones which might result in unforeseen problems.

The Samsung Galaxy I6500U (Saturn) mobile phone as a device is undoubtedly very good with Wi-Fi connectivity and 3G access along with a capacitive touchscreen and all the benefits one gets with Android 2.1. True the camera on the Samsung I6500U Saturn cellphone could be slightly better than 3.15 MP but then, the price could be higher too.
