Sony Ericsson Hazel GreenHeart smart phone review

The Sony Ericsson Hazel is the second GreenHeart phone we have reviewed, the first being the Sony Ericsson Aspen. Announced and available since December 2009, the Sony Ericsson Hazel is part of the GreenHeart initiative by Sony Ericsson to both reduce pollution and increase efficiency and in general, to become a more environmentally friendly producer of phones. The Sony Ericsson Hazel is a fairly high-end phone and we take a look at its features, tech specs and environmental friendliness below.

While most people would be glad to be “greener” or more environmentally friendly, doing so is often at the cost of performance, quality, efficiency etc. That is, “green products are sadly, often lower quality or have fewer features or older technology.

Not so with the Sony Ericsson Hazel smart phone which features a QVGA TFT display capable of supporting 16 million colors, accelerometer, 5 MP camera with auto-focus, geo-tagging and LED flash, up  to 280 MB free internal memory, microSD for up to 16 GB expandable memory, microUSB, Wi-Fi with DLNA, Bluetooth, aGPS, FM radio with RDS, quad band GSM and HSPA class 3G capability.

Utilizing recycled plastics with minimized packaging and free from hazardous chemicals, the Sony Ericsson Hazel cellphone is a big step towards greener electronic products. The Sony Ericsson Hazel mobile phone also saves on paper usage with e-manuals instead of regular ones available in the package.

You will also find a special low consumption charger (EP300 GreenHeart) in the bundle which is more efficient than regular chargers.

On the software side of things, you will find green apps such as WalkMate which finds out how much carbon you saved by walking, Eco Calculator which tracks your CO2 emissions and EcoMate which gives you helpful suggestions to reduce your carbon footprint.

But equally as important is that the Sony Ericsson Hazel does not compromise on quality and has features such as Noise Shield which filters noise around you to improve sound quality, GPS assistance with Google Maps and Wisepilot (limited time free service) and 10 days free weather forecast with Accuweather.

You can also easily keep in touch with friends, family and other contacts via Facebook, Myspace and Twitter on the Sony Ericsson Hazel smart phone.

The Sony Ericsson Hazel mobile phone is a vertical slider with a standard keypad and is available in Superior Black and Passionate Rouge. Overall, the Sony Ericsson Hazel cellphone is a high quality device that has the added advantage of being environmentally friendly and has little to criticize.
